The Importance of Simple Basic Truths

††††††††††† All of the Indiana Driverís Manuals total about a quarter of a million words. There is also a large body of motor vehicle law. Yet, good and safe driving is basically simple: stay on the road, donít hit anything and be courteous. If we forget these simple and basic truths, the rest of the rules and laws are useless as demonstrated by one driver who followed GPS directions right down a boat ramp. Someone who loses sight of the basics, however well they know the minute details, is all wet.

††††††††††† Life is already busy and complicated, and often filled with pain and sorrow. Why get the basics of life wrong, making things even worse? Further, as most instinctively know, there will be life after death. Being wrong and not properly prepared could result in eternal misery. Not preparing for our journey through life and on to eternity is far more foolish than embarking on a trip around the world without passport or baggage.

††††††††††† In search of basic questions of life, many religions and philosophies have arisen in the world. One could spend a lifetime trying to sort the truth from the noise and many do, but mostly in vain. But neither can one just ignore the problem and hope things will be somehow OK. Fortunately, by going directly to the simple basics, we can quickly cut through the noise and learn the most important truths. By way of example, a jury will reject the testimony of a witness caught in lies about things already known. Similarly, testimony about things unknown will be rejected if the story is inconsistent or does not make sense. Finally, no defendant is ever convicted on the testimony of just one witness without other evidence, be it from other witnesses or physical evidence. In similar fashion, we first ask if there is a religious book that gets the facts right pertaining to things already known. Second, does the book give consistent explanations of things not already known? Finally, is it the product of many writers and witnesses teaching the same things over more than a thousand years? After all, any single so-called prophet can write a book and gain a following. Alone, of all books ever written, the Holy Bible satisfies all three criteria. The Holy Bible was directly inspired by Almighty God Himself, who created all things; it is a first-hand account by a Witness who cannot lie.

††††††††††† The Bible teaches many things, but here are the most basic and important:††††††††††

1) God created you, owns you and gave you commands to obey. 2) You disobeyed God. (This disobedience is called, "Sin.") 3) God's holiness and justice compel Him to send you to Hell for your disobedience. 4) Jesus Christ became Man, died on the Cross and rose again from the dead. 5) Jesus suffered and died in the place of all who trust in Him so that they will not go to Hell. 6) Jesus lived a perfect life in the place of all who trust in Him so that they go to Heaven. 7) If you repent and believe (trust) in Jesus Christ, you will go to Heaven to be with God. 8) If you do NOT repent and believe in Jesus Christ, you will very justly go to Hell.

††††††††††† God willing, future articles will flesh out these eight vital truths. In the meantime, please carefully consider what the Almighty Creator said about His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ:††

Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. ďHe who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:15-19 NKJV)
