Others, not elected, never truly come to Christ, and therefore cannot be saved.a This is true even though they may be called by the ministry of the Wordb and may have some common operations of the Spirit.c Much less can men who do not profess[4] the Christian religion be saved in any other way at all, no matter how diligently they frame their lives according to the light of nature and the law of that religion they do profess.d And to assert and maintain that they may is very pernicious[5] and to be detested.e

6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting
him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different
gospel— 7not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want
to distort the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven
should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him
be accursed.
Galatians 1:6-8 (KJ3) Back
6¶ I wonder that you are so
quickly turning away from the One having called you in the grace
of Christ to another gospel,
7 which is not another of the
same kind; if not there are some troubling you, even determined to pervert
the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we, or an angel out
of Heaven, should preach a gospel to you beside the gospel we preached to you,
let him be accursed.
Galatians 1:6–8 (NASB95) Back
6I am amazed that you are so quickly
deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7which is
really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to
distort the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven,
should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is
to be accursed!
Galatians 1:6-8 (WEB) Back
6 I marvel that you are so quickly
deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different “good news”;
7 and there isn’t another “good news.” Only
there are some who trouble you, and want to pervert the Good News of Christ.
8 But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you any “good news” other than that which we preached to you, let him be cursed.
[1] effectually: effective—God’s call will be heeded and effective for all of His intended purposes
[2] heart of stone: a heart hardened, set against God
[3] heart of flesh: a healthy heart that is as it should be, sensitive to God
[4] profess: openly acknowledge
[5] pernicious: highly injurious, destructive, deadly
[6] The original ends in verse 5, strangely truncating the passage. It is assumed to be a typographical error.
* TR reads “understanding” instead of “hearts”
✡ Isaiah 54:13
* NU puts the phrase “not of works, but of him who calls” at the beginning of verse 12 instead of the end of verse 11.
* The word translated “anew” here and in John 3:7 (anothen) also means “again” and “from above”.
† The same Greek word (pneuma) means wind, breath, and spirit.
† or, I AM
* Greek: anathema.
[LAP1]I know you state in the opening that footnotes will fall wherever Word puts them, but I figured I’d point out that this footnote shows up on the next page instead of this one.
